Biography

Dr. Bruce Runyan, Senior Lecturer in Accounting, joined the UNT faculty in 2014.  His professional experience is primarily with local and regional CPA firms in Dallas and Washington, D.C.   He has Bachelor of Science degrees in Forestry and Accounting from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance from the University of North Texas, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Accounting from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Runyan teaches in the areas of financial and managerial accounting, and has taught Intermediate Accounting I, Principles of Financial Accounting, and Principles of Managerial Accounting at UNT.   He is the co-coordinator of the Principles of Managerial course.

Dr. Runyan’s research interests are primarily in pedagogy, earnings forecast, and cross-border information flows.  He has published in Internal Auditing; International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation; and the Accounting Forum.  Current projects include a study of meta-cognition tools effect on performance in accounting courses, the effect of non-profit financial disclosures on revenues, and home-country bias effects on foreign earnings persistence.

Dr. Runyan has earned the Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, and Certified Financial Planner certifications and is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants, American Accounting Association, International Association for Accounting Education & Research, and Beta Gamma Sigma.   He is co-advisor to the student chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA). 

Dr. Runyan is married to Dana, who is an Instructional Coach with Willard Public Schools.  In their spare time, they enjoy traveling, reading, and playing with their dog Daisy.
