Janet Bracken worked her entire career in the Dallas area. She worked for some of Dallas’ best known companies including Hicks, Muse, Tate & First and Centex Corporation. After retiring from the for-profit sector she worked for Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas.
At BBBS she was the director of Generations, a pilot program to engage senior citizens as volunteers for at risk children. This program’s entire mission is to solve the problem of America’s shortage of volunteers by engaging the senior community.
Janet currently focuses her time on volunteering in the community and has been involved for the last 20 years with her efforts focused on Big Brothers Big Sisters and the University of North Texas.
In 2010 and 2011 she chaired the BBBS Black Tie Ball and served on the Black Tie Ball Committee for 12 years. Janet served as a Big Sister to two Little Sisters and one Little Brother over a span of 28 years. Janet served on the BBBS Dallas Board for 7 years.
She and her husband, Frank co-chaired a $200 MM Capital Campaign for the University of North Texas that was completed in 2015. Janet has been a guest speaker for UNT training and events. She was named to the UNT College of Business Advisory Board in 2016.
Another endeavor is serving on the Presbyterian Communities & Services Faith Hospice Advisory Board helping to raise money and awareness for the Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Dallas.
She returned to school in 2012, 30 years after a two year degree to attend UNT and completed her Bachelor of Applied Arts degree with a concentration in Non-Profit Management and proudly walked the stage in 2014.
