Biography: 

Mark joined Whitley Penn LLP as a Partner in 2010 following his retirement from Ernst & Young in 2009 after 38 years in their Dallas office, including 26 years as a Partner. His experience comes from auditing and advising public and private corporations, generally with global operations, ranging from very large conglomerates, to high growth venture capital and private equity backed companies. Mark’s most significant experiences are in the technology, manufacturing, service, mining and life sciences industries, and he also has significant experience dealing with Sarbanes Oxley and reporting under International Financial Reporting Standards. Operating responsibilities within Ernst & Young’s Southwest Area included 12 years as the Partner-in-Charge of Human Resources responsible for all recruiting, training, performance evaluation and compensation for this $200+ million practice. In addition, Mark was the Strategic Growth Markets Leader and Venture Capital Advisory Group Leader for 8 years responsible for market strategy development and execution, and related team building and skill development, in the venture capital, private equity backed and high growth public company market segments. Mark has served on 28 non-profit Boards (Chairman of 9 and Vice Chairman of 4) including the UNT College of Business Advisory Board, the North Texas Regional Center for Innovation and Commercialization, the Dallas Regional Chamber, the City of Dallas Economic Development Advisory Board, the City of Dallas State Thomas Tax Increment Financing District, the Greater Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Volunteer Center of North Texas. Mark and his wife Carol (both UNT Alumni) have been active on many fronts in the community over their 35 years of marriage. They have three children – an advertising executive in New York, an actor in Dallas and a Junior economics major at TCU in Ft. Worth.
