Biography: 

John S. Baen is a Professor of Real Estate at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, as well as a practicing commercial real estate broker, Certified Real Estate Appraiser, Certified Right– of– Way Agent, author, expert witness and consultant. He is a co-founder and principal of Real Capital Investments, a retail investment brokerage firm focused on the sale and advisory of single tenant, net leased properties, shopping centers and sale-leaseback transactions nationwide. He is also the founder and principal of Baen and Company, which is an internationally recognized oil and gas valuation, lease negotiation, mineral management and expert witness firm.

Dr. Baen has authored over seventy (70) articles, five (5) books/texts and has served as the American Real Estate Society (ARES) representative as Director of the International Real Estate Society (IRES) as well as 2012/2013 Vice President of the Texas Land and Minerals Association (TLMA.org). He is a noted expert in oil and gas leases, litigation and research in the Barnett Shale, Eagle Ford Shale, Marcellus Shale, Utuen Shale and Bakken Shale areas of the U.S. as well as many other areas of real estate.

Dr. Baen has held positions, lectured, and delivered academic and industry speeches in New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, Austria, Sweden, South Africa, South America and throughout the United States of America. He has been quoted or interviewed by the Wall Street Journal (3), Boston Globe (1), USA Today (2), ABC News (2) and National/ Regional Papers (175+). He has delivered congressional testimony in Washington, D.C. as well as U.S. State Department presentation to visiting dignitaries on oil and gas topics. His research and lectures are anchored in both theory and practical aspects of a wide range of oil and gas and real estate topics which has earned three (3) national manuscript awards which were sponsored by American Real Estate Society (ARES) corporate sponsors such as the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), John Hancock and Prudential.
