Final Competition

Breakthrough Ventures at UNTBreakthrough Ventures is an opportunity for students to take an idea, early-stage concept, or growing venture and put it to the test.

Participants will have the opportunity to strengthen their business model, sharpen their pitch, receive valuable feedback, connect with mentors and industry professionals, and compete for funding and resources to help move their venture forward.

Students from all majors and disciplines are encouraged to participate. You do not need to be a business student or have every detail figured out before applying. What matters is having a student-led idea with potential and being ready to develop it.

How the Competition Works

The Breakthrough Ventures competition takes students through a three-stage process designed to strengthen their venture and pitch. Students begin by submitting their business model for review. The Top 3 teams advance to the video round and receive mentoring and feedback to refine their ventures and prepare for the final competition. Finalists then present live and answer questions from a panel of judges.

Competition Prizes

Breakthrough Ventures offers $35,000 in cash and in-kind prizes, including:

  • $1,000 for the best idea in each competition category: Deep Tech, Life Sciences and Healthcare, and Social Impact
  • $1,000 for Best Marketing Concept
  • $1,000 for Best Business Plan
  • $5,000 for each of the Top 3 finalist teams
  • $15,000 grand prize for the final competition winner
  • Additional in-kind professional services and resources, which may include accounting, legal, consulting, staffing, and technology support
