The Dr. John Baen Real Estate Awards Program honors exceptional achievement and leadership in the real estate industry. Named in recognition of Dr. John Baen's distinguished contributions to real estate education and professional practice, these awards celebrate individuals who exemplify excellence in entrepreneurship, executive leadership, and real estate finance.
Program Objectives
Enhance Program Visibility: Elevate the profile and reputation of the University of North Texas Real Estate program within the professional real estate community, positioning UNT as a center of excellence in real estate education.

The Awards
The program presents three distinct awards annually:
- Dr. John Baen Real Estate Entrepreneur of the Year
Honoring visionary leaders who have built successful real estate enterprises - Dr. John Baen Real Estate Executive of the Year
Recognizing outstanding leadership in real estate organizations and operations - Dr. John Baen Real Estate Financier of the Year
Celebrating excellence in real estate finance, investment, and capital markets
Nomination and Selection Process
The selection process is designed to be inclusive and focused exclusively on professional merit. Nominees need not be graduates of UNT nor have any prior affiliation with the university. The awards are open to all real estate professionals whose career accomplishments and contributions warrant recognition. Selection will be made by a committee of the Real Estate Advisory Board of the FIREL Department.
Self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged. The nomination form is intentionally concise to encourage broad participation while providing sufficient information for meaningful evaluation. Supporting letters are not required but professional references may be requested during the review process.

Note: Graduation from or affiliation with the University of North Texas is not required. Selection is based solely on professional accomplishments and contributions to the real estate industry.
