Javier Rubio-Herrero, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Technology & Decision Sciences at the University of North Texas. His research sits at the intersection of Operations Research, Supply Chain Management, and Machine Learning, with a primary focus on developing data-driven optimization models for complex real-world systems.
Dr. Rubio’s work is widely recognized for its contributions to price-setting newsvendor problems and transportation modeling. His research has been published in premier journals, including the European Journal of Operational Research, Annals of Operations Research, and Transportation. His early scholarship was distinguished by winning the INFORMS New Jersey Chapter Student Contest.
Beyond his research, he serves as an Associate Editor for the journals Supply Chain Analytics and Decision Analytics.
Prior to joining UNT in 2020, Dr. Rubio served as an Assistant Professor at St. Mary’s University and a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He also brings industry-informed perspectives to his work, having served as a Logistics Engineer at Solutia Inc.
