Karen Landay

Dr. Karen Landay is an Assistant Professor of Management in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business at the University of North Texas, where she teaches graduate courses in human resource management and organizational design and change. She received her Ph.D. in Management from the University of Alabama, her MBA from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and her Bachelor of Music from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Prior to UNT, Dr. Landay was an Assistant Professor in the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she taught undergraduate courses in organizational behavior and received the 2023 Elmer F. Pierson Good Teaching Award.

Dr. Landay's research interests include work passion, music listening at work, and destructive leadership. Her work on these topics and others has been published in leading academic journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, Human Resource Management, The Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management Review, and Journal of Business Research. Dr. Landay's research has been cited over 825 times, received awards from the Southern Management Association, the University of Alabama, and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and been featured in national and international media outlets, including Forbes, Business Insider, Inc., Salon, BBC Worklife, the American Psychological Association, and Nature. Dr. Landay is also a dedicated volunteer within the management field. She is an editorial review board member for Human Resource Management Review and Journal of Organizational Behavior, serves as an ad hoc reviewer for top tier journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Human Resource Management, Personnel Psychology, and Journal of Business Venturing, and has received reviewer awards from Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Managerial Psychology, and the Midwest Academy of Management. Dr. Landay is a Representative at Large for the Human Resources Division in the Academy of Management and has served in a variety of roles in the Southern Management Association, where she received the 2022 K. Michele (Micki) Kacmar Volunteer of the Year Award.
