With over twenty years of higher education administration experience including serving as a Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. McKinney has successfully developed student success programs, built partnerships, and advocated for student well-being—especially for those navigating complex academic, personal, or financial challenges. Helping students is more than her occupation, it is her “occu-passion” which is why she is committed to ensuring every RCOB student can engage fully and flourish during their time at UNT.
Dr. McKinney holds a Doctorate in Education from National Louis University, and a Master of Education Administration from Michigan State University. She has certifications from Harvard University in Innovation and Strategy, and Performance Assessment for Higher Education; Quality Service and Leadership Excellence from Disney; Change Management- ADKAR Model from Prosci; Service Excellence and Change Management from Ouellette & Associates; Leadership Texas Women; and has served on the NASPA National Public Policy Team. Dr. McKinney was awarded the 2017 University of North Texas President’s Community Award, and Advocate of the Year Award from the American Association of College Counseling. She has served as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas since 2016 with courses such as Organization and Student Affairs Administration, Assessment Practices, Practicum, Field Problems or Internship, Changing Student Demographics in American Post-Secondary Institutions, and Business Careers and Professional Development. She has served as a consultant and public speaker for higher education with topics including but not limited to Student Wellbeing & Success, Cultivating Student Belonging, Multiple Generations in the Workplace, and Critical Dialogue/Conversations.
Outside of work, Teresa enjoys traveling, kayaking, running 5Ks, skydiving, riding her motorcycle, cheering on her husband at Judo events, and spending time with family and friends.
