Find a Mentor
What is a mentee?
Being a mentee means taking on the role of a learner and seeking guidance, knowledge,
and support from a more experienced and knowledgeable individual. You must be open
to learning, seeking guidance, setting goals, receiving feedback, self-motivated,
respectful & appreciative, proactive in communication, and accountable for your responsibility
to your personal growth.
What will I gain from being mentored?
- Knowledge from a peer or professional
- Affirmation and Support
- Accountability
- How to set goals and achieve them
- Feedback
- Networking experience
- Empowered Independence and Ownership
Time Commitment/Meetings
- Commit to participating in the mentorship program for the full semester you choose
in the application. You are expected to connect with your mentor at least three times
during the semester at times that are most convenient for you. Stronger connections
will be made between mentors and mentees by staying actively involved in the program
for the duration of the semester.
- Check-in with your mentor in person or via Zoom, email, phone, text, FaceTime - whatever
you're comfortable with.
Mentee Responsibilities
- Meet with your mentor three times during the semester. Submit a log of your meeting
on The EDGE Program app powered by Suitable. (More information on how to log your
meeting will follow.) Those who complete all meetings will receive a badge through
The EDGE app to display on your LinkedIn page.
- Be available! As the semester goes on, your schedule will likely get busier. Be sure
to make time for your mentor. They are volunteering their time just for YOU! Take
advantage of this opportunity to learn from them.
- Ask questions - let your mentor be a resource to you. UNT is a large campus, and sometimes
you don't where to turn for help. That's what your mentor is here for…they've been
in your shoes and can point you in the right direction.
