Graduate Accounting Programs

The UNT MS programs in Accounting and Taxation are 33 hours credit hours (11 courses), and are full-time cohort style programs. Both programs are taught on the Denton campus, with most classes taught during the day.

All applications in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business are reviewed holistically.

Start Your Application

  1. Apply via: UNT GradCAS. Instructions found here.
  2. Upload Application Materials inside the application portal:
    • Essay: Essay of 600-700 words. Original narrative about your goals and what distinguishes you as a strong candidate for this program.
    • Resume: A standard resume detailing work and academic experience.
  3. Transcripts: Applicants must list ALL colleges and universities ever attended. Failure to list full academic history will delay processing.
    • Domestic Applicants: Request all U.S. transcripts via CAS
    • International Applicants: Upload your official copies of all International Transcripts/marksheets/Degree Certificates (official copies from your institution will be required if admitted)

    • UNT students/alumni do not need to request/upload transcripts unless they have attended any schools since leaving UNT but must still list full educational history (transferring institutions and UNT)
  4. $75.00 non-refundable Application Fee: Submit via GradCAS.

    : Activate EUID and my.unt.edu portal: Within 3 business days you will receive a pin number for your UNT EUID to activate your my.unt.edu.
  5. Test Scores: GMAT or GRE scores are required of all applicants unless waived based on GPA. See waiver policy below.

    GMAT/GRE Waiver Policy:
    • Testing is waived for applicants who have earned a doctoral or professional doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Testing is waived for applicants with a Master's degree and a 3.0 GPA from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Testing is waived for applicants with a Bachelor's degree and a 3.0 GPA (either cumulatively or last-60-hour) from a regionally accredited institution
    • If test score requirement is not waived scores may not be more than (5) years old. Recommended scores: GMAT 520-570 or GRE 153 verbal/154 quant. Applicants may test at a testing center or take the test via online format. You may self-report scores, but official scores must be submitted directly to UNT from the testing agency (GRE code is 6481, no code required for GMAT)

Students admitted to the MS in Taxation or MS in Accounting programs must meet the 3.0 Accounting GPA requirement to satisfy admission standards. Accounting GPA is calculated by using grades from Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, Cost Accounting, Accounting Systems, Advanced & Not for Profit Accounting Principles, Federal Income Tax I, Federal Income Tax II, Auditing, and Accounting Research & Data Analysis. Only grades of A, B, or C will be considered in the Accounting GPA. Students who do not meet the 3.0 Accounting GPA requirement prior to the start of the masters program may not begin graduate coursework, and will be placed on departmental probation. Their status and next steps will be reviewed by the program director. In addition, students will be required to meet with the program director to address any deficiencies or unmet requirements.
